SEATTLE, May 21 – Microsoft highlighted new tools geared towards encouraging developers to integrate AI-focused technology into Windows software, as it competes against Alphabet, Amazon.com, and Apple for dominance in the emerging field. During a developer conference in Seattle, Chief Executive Satya Nadella showcased new application programming interfaces (APIs) aimed at facilitating developers’ access to Microsoft’s AI technology.
With 1.8 million developers currently utilizing Github Copilot, Microsoft’s generative AI tool aimed at enhancing programmers’ productivity, Nadella emphasized the transformative impact developers are having on the world. Microsoft also outlined new features for its Copilot AI software, targeting business productivity applications like email and Teams, a video and text chat product.
Following Google’s unveiling of similar AI tools for office applications at its developer conference the previous week, Microsoft detailed its new developer tools. Additionally, Microsoft announced last Thursday its plans to offer its cloud computing customers a platform of AMD AI chips, competing with Nvidia’s widely-used graphics processing units in AI computing. This platform utilizes Nvidia’s Infiniband networking technology to interconnect the processors.

Furthermore, Microsoft’s Chief Technology Officer Kevin Scott noted that OpenAI’s new GPT4-o model, running on Microsoft’s infrastructure, is significantly more cost-effective for developers compared to earlier versions, making it a more accessible option for integration into their software.
